The Rajesh Padia Memorial Fund for the Mount Kenya Trust

For those of you who knew Rajesh you will know what a larger than life, wonderful family man and great friend he was. Tragically Rajesh passed away in February 2010 and is greatly missed by family and his many friends. Rajesh was a great supporter of the 10 to 4 Mountain Bike Challenge, the Rhino Charge and the Lewa Marathon.

Year on year, and without fail he supported these conservation based fund-raising events not only through sponsorship through his family business Highlands Water but also giving generously with time and help and irrepressible enthusiasm to both organizers and competitors.

He did all of this purely from the goodness of his heart and his passion for conservation, and in particular for the areas close to his home turf of Nyeri, and was extremely saddened by the continual state of decline and destruction of the surrounding forests. He supported many different charities but the mountain and Mount Kenya Trust was one of the causes closest to his heart. With the blessing and help of his wife Kalpa and family, we are starting the Rajesh Padia Memorial Fund, which will become a fundraiser for an endowment fund for the Trust.

The mountain is there for all of us, but will only survive through a passion to conserve all that it gives Kenya’s people. It is through this uniqueness that has made it become a World Heritage Site.

The target is 30 million shillings in one year to make this fund a worthwhile endowment fund that will help the Trust to keep up its work for Mount Kenya.

We are therefore asking those who were friends of Rajesh, the cycling community whose passion is the 10-to-4, or whose lives are affected by Mount Kenya be it from those who simply live in the vicinity of it, or rely on its climate and waters for business, or anyone who just has an infatuation for the mountain, to help establish the Rajesh Padia Memorial Fund in order to let his passion live on.
